Advice on catholic schools

Hi mumsnetters,
Any of you able to tell me the following:
If we are going down the primary catholic school option, how many can you apply to when you make your application in January? If you don't get your first choice / closest school to you, what happens then? Do you get assigned another one of your choices, if you are allowed more than one choice?!
As you can see, I'm rather new to this, and rather confused.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Thanks, Camilla

The rules for Catholic schools are the same as for any other schools. You apply to your local authority. You will be allowed to name up to three schools as preferences. Some LAs allow you to name more. If you don't get into any of them you will be assigned a place at the nearest school with places available, which many not be a Catholic school.

We made 6 choices, 4 catholic. All good abd outstanding schools. Distance from school is rarely used as based on other criteria. Distance only used if over subscribed by catholic children. Ended up with first choice, outstanding school, some distance from our home . Could have got into any of the top 4 choices though. Criteria is baptised, practicing catholic. Preference goes to that parish but often extends beyond. Sorry poor explanation as posting fro
My phone.

Oh and you have to apply to the schools directly as well as the LA form. And get a Form signed by parish priest to say you are practicing. If you aren't practicing you can still apply, just rank lower in acceptance.
