SaTs levels in Y2.

My DD is 7. Last night she came home with some homework entitled 'Working towards 2c'. The homework was for reading and writing.
Now, I'm relly worried. It's Easter term in Y2, surely she should be further on than 2C ( or working towards it?!).
Obviously it's a weekend so I can't contact school. We do the usual reading at home, working out money etc but what else should I be doing to 'bring her on'.
Can anyone help me please?. Is working towards 2c a dreadful result for this stage in the year?.
TIA.

Did she find the hw easy? Would you say it was the right level for her?

If it was the right level, then she's a 1a, and yes she is behind.

Do you think she's behind? Has school ever said anything?

What level was she at last parent's evening?

What sort of books is she reading?

Thanks for the speedy replies. It's not really homework, more targets 'I will make sure my stories have more than one idea in them' 'I can use pronouns' etc etc. That's for writing. I personally think she can do the majority of the targets.

Her reading targets ( for just level 2, no sub-levels). 'I know where to look for information'. 'I can work out what the writer is trying to tell me about events, information and characters' 'I can use examples from he the text to help explain my thinking'.

We haven't had parent's evening yet.

She reads the schools 'gold level' which is withing 2B (according to the school).
I am officially a bad mum :(

To add, school have never ever mentioned her being behind and I've trusted school and just read and done her homework as usual. We read alot at home, but obviously she needs more.
:(

Well, I wouldn't panic- and you are most definitely not a bad mum (well, not based on this post alone, anyway!)

What does she say she has to do with the targets? Is it possible that she's already met them and she's brought them home because she's got new ones at school?

Sounds like she is a level 2b in reading, which is exactly where she should be. If she was a 2b she would still be having level 2 targets to work on.

And she may well also be a level 2c for writing, which is perfectly fine (given that she reads well)

I would neither panic, nor step up how much work she is doing at home. She sounds like she's absolutely fine.

In 5 weeks her SATs results have to be submitted to the LEA. In order to award her a 2c the teacher needs to have plenty of evidence that she's working at it. Ie well more than one example. So I bet the teacher just wants her to produce her best work a few more times over the next 5 weeks.

Bear in mind that, however well intentioned, it is not humanly possible to ensure that every piece of homework, every day, is matched to the exact ability of every child. Sometimes we just do a best fit, and ask for consolidation. If homework is being mismatched on a regular basis, either to yoru child's ability or to the national expectation (unless you have been advised of the reason or been made aware of problems), it's fine to query it, but other than that, please don't fret.
Also, if it's a photocopy from a book, take levels with a pinch of salt. Levels are never an exact science, and children take a long time to move from one to another, so it's to be expected that at times aspects of a level may appear to be learned and practised out of sync.

Thank you for all the help and reassurance, much appreciated. I'll have a quick word with her teacher tomorrow, but this after we'll be working on a story that ticks some of the level boxes :).
Thank you again.
