Hello all,

I have applied to Merton for in school admissions but have not heard back from them yet. Its been close to five weeks and this is driving me crazy to not know. Do any of you know which schools closer to Wimbledon have spaces open? Help!!

not much help on schools in wimbledon, but i should imagine the LEA are very busy this time of year with primary school admissions, best thing to do is call them and make sure they have infact received your application and where they are at the moment on making a decision

Call them!
I applied for in year admissions last year )not at a busy time) and was shocked how slow things moved. You should be able to find out when they received your application and when you can expect to hear from them. If you are applying for a reception place then I would expect to wait a few more weeks but if not then I'd expect to hear details like waiting list positions and which schools have vacancies.

threekidsfourcats and crazygrcieuk, Thank You for the prompt response. I have called them once every ten days and its the same answer: still being processed since they are very busy ( I totally understand that). But isnt it possible for them to let me know atleast once the letters have gone out on 23rd April? Also, does gaining a spot at a school now mean that my DS will continue on for Year 1 or do I need to make a separate application?

Polkapink, this is unacceptable delay. You need to get as much evidence as possible about when the initial form was sent in and when you chased the LA.
Have you applied for specific schools or just making a general enquiry because you need to do the former. Choose which school you want and get the application form in.

Thanks admission for your reply. I am clueless about how to do anything when they say that it is being processed and that they are very busy this time of year. I did fill in the application with proper choice of schools and all.

The Admissions Code requires them to process your application "without delay". Yes they are busy but they have to get on with it. I would consider telling them that if you don't have an answer by date X you will take the matter up with the Local Government Ombudsman.

If they allocate any places off the waiting list for this school and the place would have been yours if they had got around to processing your application that would be a good case for appeal.
