porn in the playground on mobiles

I am a health practitioner and the other day I was shocked by one of my mother patients telling me that her 10yr old regulary watches porn on other boys mobile phones. Despite talking to the school nothing has really been done. This is much more serious than the odd porn mag or coming across porn of a family member as this systematic, conscious downloadingof adult material by very young children. I ask what is happening then when they get to Secondary school. I am a grandmother of babies so I am not directly involved with schools anymore. Are parents aware of this ? Is something being done? If not why?

not much to add other than i hate the idea of primary kids with mobiles!

That is uterly shocking/disgusting though :(

Maybe the parents of those children need to be told?

I always feel phones should not be allowed at school. But hell I am old fashioned and plain old. If they are allowed in the playground I think a school should firmly discipline children caught peddling porn. Your mother's patient should write to the Head of the school and to the Chair of Governors I think expressing her extreme concern. This could also be a child protection issue so may need to be explored further.

Don't worry, when we get the government snooping charter approved we'll be able to pinpoint the phone, categorise the content, identify the playground and send a squad car round to catch the bandits. (Handcuffs will have to be made smaller.)

Mumsnet round up had something in it about six out of ten primary school children having been exposed to porn.

Oh and yes school should of course involve parents.
Shocking at primary.
Could end up with kids being sent 'unwanted' and damaging images - a form of abuse and bullying.

Why on earth have they got phones at school during school hours? Even those schools I know that allow them have them in a box in the teachers cupboard until home time. Not specifically to avoid what you're describing, more to prevent endless dealing with loss and damage.

Phones should be confiscated.
my primary age DD has a phone, and I've told her teacher to confiscate it if she takes it to school.
it isn't that hard to prevent dodgy internet access on phones & other devices, more awareness needs to be made about the need for that.
