Help! Any KS2 teachers?

I am filling in an application form and I have to show " knowledge and understanding of current legislation as it affects the classroom teacher". I have been out of teaching for 5yrs and have been arranging voluntary work for this term to help me get up to speed. Tbh this job has come up earlier than I am ready for it but it's too good an opportunity to pass by.

Any help or ideas gratefully received. Thanks.

Have you tried the TES website forums? There is a specific job seeking thread with a really helpful advisor (TheoGriff) and lots of useful advice can be found there.

As a head I am surprised by that requirement. Legislation and expectations are changing so much at the moment, that it is the management's job to keep on top of that whilst supporting teachers to teach. The fundamental craft of teaching is unchanged by government whims. Find out what the children don't know, teach it to them, check they have understood. A potential change you might need to be aware of is that Ofsted have dropped the contextualising of information, so that we have high expectations for all children (as we always have) rather than allowing for background. Other changes, such as academies, the potential change in the curriculum and so forth are very much strategic, so I would expect my staff to be aware but no more. Remember, your job is to teach. When appointing new teachers I look to see a passion for teaching, an ability to deconstruct lessons when they go wrong and a willingness to engage in dialogue. At interview, we ask new candidates to teach a lesson; with unknown children it can often go wrong, and I usually appoint the one who can analyse what went wrong and suggest improvements for the future rather than expect a perfect lesson.

I have looked at TES but thought I'd try here too. TheoGriff is useful I agree.

Thanks SmallSchoolPrimaryTeacher that's really helpful. I feel my previous experience is strong and relevant but lack awareness of recent changes, really. Even friends who are classroom teachers weren't really sure.
