Boys cotton school trousers

I'm having the same problem as every year: has anyone found any reasonably priced cotton school trousers on (or near) the high st this year?
I usually go to m & s but nothing is showing up on their website as yet, and I've not found anything elsewhere either.
I have found some on the specialist sites but the prices are double what I'd normally pay and ds2 goes through the knees at an impressive rate Shock
Any information gratefully received Grin

The ones in Sainsburys (Tu) are fab and only 3 or 4 quid a pair.

Same issues here, want cotton pinafores though which are totally non existent!
Last year there was a serious lack of GREY cotton cardigans. Loads of good quality shops did cotton cardigans, but not in Grey.

I managed to get one in Sainsbury. I find their clothes shrink a lot though so if you do get some there, over buy and leave tags on to sell on ebay if you end up not needing them.....

nope :(

tesco do a polyester cotton mix.

it's even worse for me now as DS1 changed school and has to have navy!!! grey cotton was hard enough, navy is impossible.

i can't even find any that aren't covered in teflon :(

Suffolkgirl1 · 14/04/2012 08:58

Navy - nightmare! I had to resort to the school outfitters horrible navy skirt last year for DD because no one else stocked them.

I wore navy at secondary school and had no problem getting uniform but since the supermarkets have "taken over" school uniform you have a problem unless your school has grey bottoms, white shirts and a generic jumper in red, black, bright blue or green! I so miss Adams, their uniform was great and they actually sold grey and gold polo shirts too!

Sorry, I started this thread then wandered off for a few days to deal with my dc's birthdays and birthday parties Blush Grin
jalapeno I don't think any of the ones in my sainsbo's are cotton and they're all covered in teflon too :(
I've seen sky blue and red polo shirts at cambridge baby
nigelsecostore has navy trousers for girls if that's any use suffolkgirl?
lintkids also have navy stuff...
I've had no more luck with affordable grey trousers Sad but I will keep looking!

where did you get the expensive ones and how expensive were they?

MrsHeffley · 19/04/2012 17:10

M&S used to but they go in a second so check every day.

MrsHeffley · 19/04/2012 17:11

Online that is.Smile

Tikkabillajive · 19/04/2012 17:30

thisisyesterday could you get away with these in navy?

thisisyesterday · 19/04/2012 19:04

i'm not sure. the uniform code says "no chinos" :(

might have a look at them in store and see what they're like though!

Tikkabillajive · 19/04/2012 20:59

Hmm, I imagine those would count as chinos. What a silly rule, those sorts of trousers look really smart and are so much nicer than the usual horrible synthetic school trousers. I'm hoping I can get away with chinos/corduroy trousers when ds starts in Sept!

M&S are now selling their Skinkind cotton trousers again. I have two boys, one with eczema and one with sensory issues so need cotton for both. I missed them last year, they were sold out just after Easter, and they have not re-stocked until now. I have now bought all the trousers we will need for both boys until the end of primary school, as I have had real problems buying cotton every year since my son started school five years ago. These trousers are good quality, soft and comfortable, not especially cheap, but I have been able to hand them on to my younger son.

I think it is a bit crazy that you have to think about school uniforms for August (in Scotland) now in May, and guess how big your children might be.

Tesco are also doing Fairtrade 50% cotton which are OK for my non-exzema son, he says that they are not as soft and feel really thin but he has managed to wear them.

Asda are also worth keeping an eye on, I got some from them five years ago which were amazing quality, lasted both boys, and were only £3 at the time. None on sale as yet though.
