Scottish P5 - can anyone tell me what my child is supposed to be learning?

My childrens school reports came out recently and basically, tell me nothing as to what my child is learning. After telling the school that I wanted to know exactly what DD was being taught so I can support her at home ie when doing fractions, starting decimals etc. I was given the new CofE guidenlines here:-

Which gives a load of airy fairy guidelines which doesn't help at all!

Anyone help me as to what she should be doing this year? She is not the brightest academically and lacks confidence so I want to do more at home with her as practice, not push her ahead.

It would really depend on what level she is working in. If she is P5 I would presume she was at the beginning of second level.

In second level the children do learn about decimals.

They continue to learn about fractions and their link to decimals and percentages - 'I have investigated the everyday contexts in which simple fractions, percentages or decimal fractions are used and can carry out the necessary calculations to solve related problems.'
MNU 2-07a

'I can show the equivalent forms of simple fractions, decimal fractions and percentages and can choose my preferred form when solving a problem, explaining my choice of method.'
MNU 2-07b

'I have investigated how a set of equivalent fractions can be created, understanding the meaning of simplest form, and can apply my knowledge to compare and order the most commonly used fractions.'
MTH 2-07c

Does she get homework? I tend to take my lead from that and try to focus or reinforce what my DC is doing in class. Sometimes if there is no maths homework I will just ask DS what he has been doing.

A good maths textbook is Teejay. It covers all the outcomes for each level. I would get the second level one. link to site here

Hope this helps a wee bit.

My son is coming to the last term in P5. He's classed as one of the youngest but is in the top group for everything. So I may be a bit useless in helping.

Language he's learned about grammar and putting all the correct "!? and writing longer stories. His homework has been to complete a sentance by adding on to the front of the sentance rather than the end. Such as "the dog went upstairs." He lengthens it to "After our walk in the park, the dog went upstairs."

In Maths he's passed fractions, times tables and long division and has been doing a lot more with money.

To be honest it does depend on the school and the area they are in as to how they cover things within that year group.

Does she get homework in maths? As I would work from that, but if you feel that you're struggling then maybe a tutor who is experienced in P5 would be off help.
