My DD has come back from dgs Reception P E saying the teacher says he is on target for 8s , and 9's at the end of year R. I have taught in a primary school and know about KS1 and 2 and about 'levels but not about these numbers. I have an awful feeling I have asked something similar before but I can't remember and can't find it. I am just curious as I am used to 'knowing about stuff like this and now I don't. TIA

An 8 means he has completed all the points within a specific early years area (think they are about 16 in all ranging from things like reading/numeracy/creativity). 9 means he is working beyond the standard expected in early years.

So basically he is doing very well :)
