So if you sat talking to a teacher at Parents' evening tonight and wondered if they were a bit loopy....

That was me. Having a stonker of a visual disturbane migraine that kicked in just as I started seeing my first parent.

I could hear them, but not see them.
I had my notes of things to remember to share with them, but couldn't read them.
I think I at least made sense.

And I wasn't sick on their shoes (although it was a close thing!)

I would suggest a Wine but probably not going to help the migraine!

I did parents' evening having been back for 3 days, post surgery. Worked in my favour- parents were saying "why is this work xyz?" and I'd reply "I didn't teach it!"

Oh no - poor you!

Dh got a migraine on his first day in his new job. He didn't feel he could go home ill on his first day and ended up in a large group meeting in a room with hideously bright lighting.

He got through most of it by hanging his head and closing his eyes but eventually had to leave to be sick.

He couldn't find the toilets immediately so by the time he only just made it and was sick all over the cubicle. He was also sick all over his brand new security pass as it swung forward during the procedure.

Not the best first day ever but he is happy in his job now Grin

Parents' Evening is stressful and awkward at the best of times. You have my upmost sympathy.

Well done you!!!!

Funnily enough our teacher this evening said she had a migraine starting, just as we sat down!!!

If it is you Mrs R, you did a very good job and I wouldn't have known!

Maybe it is just something affecting teachers at the moment, you are probably just about ready for a break.

My mum used to always call it end-of-term-itis. Medically recognised.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 27/03/2012 18:27

My GP recognises that end-of-term-itis too for migraines. She said you tend to get migraines after the stress, when you relax. Explained why I always get them on saturdays. I thought it was just bad luck.

2kidsintow - impressed you made it to the end of parents evening with a migraine. I worked with a teacher who been playing football earlier in the day and had been hit in the head. He had to be removed from parents evening for swearing and taken to hospital for concussion. He was very embarrassed!

Poor you. Sad I just assume that loopiness in teachers in understandable this far into the term and especially if they have to talk to parents after a long day. Smile

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/03/2012 19:49

Poor you :( Migraines are horrible at the best of times.

My mum got them every single Saturday without fail, until she retired. Then they were gone.

Clearly Parent's evening week!

I've just had two PE's on the run, both carried out with a stinking cold, my head feels full of cotton wool and I don't think I could string a coherent sentence together to save my life.

So if I've just spent 10 minutes spouting complete rubbish about your son/daughter, please excuse me. I do (usually) know what I'm talking about but not tonight.
(I'm sure I told one of my parents her son was a level 1 when I meant 1 point off a level 5. Blush

nmason · 27/03/2012 20:34

Thankfully I think I've always been coherent during parents evening, however I've often wondered about some of the parents ;-)

juniper904 · 27/03/2012 21:58

I think we're all post parents' evening, post assessment checks and post observations. Not to mention mothers' day cards and Easter cards!

The next three days are going to crawl.

2kidsintow · 28/03/2012 20:32

KTk9 - no, I'm Mrs W, not Mrs R.

Snowball, no swearing either. Poor concussed teacher though. I'd be mortified.

The second parents' evening went really well. No problems.

2 more days and counting.....
