I would expect 1a/2c. With the expectation of getting to 2c/2b by the end of the year and level 3 at the end of KS1. Assuming linear progress blah blah blah.

Yes, what RSAN said. Many schools will track those kida that get 8s and 9s to make sure they get L3s in KS1 and L5s in KS2.

But some children make huge strides in the Foundation stage and take a while to settle into KS1 thus failing to follow the linea progress expected. They more often than not catch up though! Smile

Oh and other kids will not get any 9s and also go on to get L3s at end of KS1.

Yes - as said above. My dd1 (yr2) got 8's and 9's and 1x7 at the end of reception. She ended yr1 as a 2C and is expected to get level 3s by the end of this year.

Dc3 was 8s and 9s at end of reception and got level 3s end of ks1. Dc4 was a mix of 6s and 7s at end of reception. She is now in year 1 and i have noticed a massive leap in her skills this year...no idea what level she is. We don't get given levels until end if year 2 and i am quite happy with that. I don't remember noticing jump in dc4's skills in year 1. Dc4 is 6 months younger in the academic year than dc3.

It would depend a bit on where the 8s and 9s were, as there is no direct correlation between the EYFS strands and the subjects levels are given for in KS1. If they were in the [several] 'leading towards numeracy' strands and the 'leading towards literacy' strands then that would give a different picture to them being in the knowledge and understanding of the world or physical development strands IYSWIM?

i am a bit naive at all this stuff, but do recall a list of 7/8 and one 6 for my DS in reception, i paid zero attention at the time since he was 2nd youngest in the class and clearly would have preferred to be at home building lego. This year ( yr 1) is a whole different story - rather like schilke we have seen a huge leap in progress and he is now in the top reading group in the class.

Surely so much of it depends on the rate of progress rather than the absolute??

My ds got 9 for literacy and numeracy and is on 1b at the moment. Seems odd ad recection teacher said he was more or less working at 1b in reception. Not bothered though.

Dd was 8s and 9s at the end of reception and at parents evening a couple of weeks ago she was at 1a and we were told she was expected to start yr 2 on a 2b.
I wouldn't put too much faith in these numbers/levels though, I expect it's open to interpretation.
