We are moving to Fetcham from South London in a few weeks in order to settle in an area before my daughter starts Nursery School/Prep School Sept 2012. Ive so far visited Daneshill, Downsend and St Teresa's each of which have good and bad points and im now feeling very confused. I want my daughter to be pushed academically to some extent but also have the balance of sporty/nurturing environment with lots of space to play and explore (hence why St Teresa's is ideal). What are peoples experiences like of these schools and maybe others in the area.

Have you thought about Polesden Lacey infant school:

If you are looking at girls schools there's Notre Dame in Cobham and Rowan in Claygate

What a coincidence - we are (hopefully - in a chain blah blah blah) moving to Fetcham from New Malden soon. I was wondering about state primary schools - obviously The Yehudi Menuhin School is in Fetcham but my daughter is not the next Nigel Kennedy...(or are we rich).

I have friends who's kids go to Daneshill - it sounds pretty good from what Ive heard.

Daneshill full of footballers and other nouveau riche types.....

leina · 22/03/2012 16:56

Thank you everyone for the information

Silverstreet- I did try Polesden Lacey and unfortunately they have no space and even the wait list is full :(

Hatchypom- Have looked at Rowan as currently in Surbitin but want to avoid the commute time to a school as the roads are terrible

Pollmeister - When are you moving to Fetcham. We move next week to the Ridgeway, so excited but dont know anyone in the area. How old is your daughter. We had a trial day at St Teresa's this week and it was amazing. My 3yr old loved it and wants to go back. Its a very nice school and very nurturing. We have also scheduled visits to Daneshill again, and Downsend and Gleneske. I really got stressed about this last week as there are so many schools to chose from. Fetcham Infants is also good but the state options afterwards like Oakhill? im told are below standard.

I was also worried about nouveau rich types at Daneshill as I dont want my daughter turning into a needy spoilt brat, but the facilities are amazing

There will be a new Free School opening in Cobham in September 2012

titchy · 28/03/2012 14:49

POSSIBLY opening - no premises and a load of hurdles to get over yet!

Also it's secondary and I think the OP wants primary...

Why not try Fetcham infants? You can go on to Howard of Effingham from there. Or Therfield, but not sure what that is like these days.

bibbityisaporker · 28/03/2012 14:56

You want your 3 year old to be pushed academically??

pollmeister · 29/03/2012 09:34

Not sure when (or even if) we are moving to Fetcham - its all hanging in the balance as it were! My daughter is 5 and currently in reception. Yes I read the Oakfield Ofstead report (although my teacher sister says dont take too much notice of those) and it did sound a little below par. Although Eastwick in Bookham sounds good. My daughter's (half) brothers and sisters go to Howard Of Effingham and we want her to go there eventaully although I know Fetcham is a little touch and go catchment-area wise.

Celeb fact: 'Outnumbered' child actor Tyger Drew Honey goes to Daneshill....His parents are NOT footballers.............ahem.

OctopusSting · 29/03/2012 10:43

I went to Polesden (was South Bookham), Eastwick and then Howard Grin

All good schools then, but i know they were shifting the catchment of Howard recently.

titchy · 29/03/2012 10:56

TGH goes to Epsom College actually - he's way too old for Danes!

titchy · 29/03/2012 10:57

Oh if you're looking ot Howard check the criteria - you have to be within catchment AND at a feeder school!

leina · 11/04/2012 15:15

Thanks all for the information. Does anyone know anything about Glenesk as it also seems fantastic but only goes up until 7
