DD2 has come home today with a picture of a decorated cookie and a letter saying that Millie's cookies has run a competition in school and if I take the drawing to Millie's cookies on Sunday they will decorate that design for the child and as a special mother's day treat I can have 20% off so it will only cost £11.03!

DD2 wants me to take her so she can spend her own money buying it for me as my mother's day present

I have very nicely said no and I would much rather decorate biscuits with her at home I would actually rather stick pins in my eyes but hey ho but WTAF???

are they allowed to make money out of 7 year olds like that?

It's a bit like Young Writers, isn't it?

I think this sort of marketing in schools is abhorrent. It is however permitted.

ooo I hate those books -forgot about those as our primary hasn't done them for years since I kicked off about them passing our details on without our consent

DH always gets wound up by the authors who go into schools for "free" but put HUGE pressure on the children to nag the parents into buying signed copies of their books.

He's honest. He charges the school for his time and gives the teacher who booked him a free signed copy of his book.
AND he enthuses the kids to listen to their teachers

rant over
