Are teachers striking at the end of March?

I thought the NUT were balloting their members. DD's school is almost all NUT staff so I was wondering if strike action is planned.

TIA

They've already balloted members they don't have to repeat the vote at the moment there is the possibility of strike action on the 28th

Feenie · 12/03/2012 19:08

They are waiting for the results of a survey before deciding whether or not to go ahead. But they don't need another ballot.

My union has settled so I could be the only one in school

juniper904 · 12/03/2012 19:28

It seems unlikely they will. They sent out paperwork to members a few weeks back, but they don't legally have to ask their permission as it's the same issue and hasn't been resolved.

I'm NASUWT and we're not striking. Am glad, actually. I have a lot of work to fit into this half term- can't lose a day of it!

From what I've heard, Atl have agreed to the pension change.

mrz · 12/03/2012 19:30

~Yes they have I'm in the ATL

juniper904 · 12/03/2012 19:44

NASUWT are meant to be doing 'action short of strike action' at present, but can't say it's made much difference in my school.

From what I've heard through the union grapevine, NUT are quite keen to go down the ASoSA path too, but they'd need to reballot.

SaynotoDaisyMeadows · 12/03/2012 20:52

So have ATL agreed to teachers working until they are 65 plus?

Would be useful to know as I guess that if the later retirement date is agreed people will need to look into retraining now, and possibly leaving the profession, if they don't think they will manage until 65 plus.

nmason · 14/03/2012 07:32

Or the government need to start saving for the huge sick pay bill ;-)

juniper904 · 15/03/2012 00:02

As of today, NASUWT have rejected all government proposals, and NUT are still considering strike action.

ATL have left the conversation.

Feenie · 15/03/2012 06:50

Most teaching unions have rejected them, apart from Atl - NAHT, UCU - after consulting members.

I presume ATL consulted their members too?

Nut are striking

Feenie · 17/03/2012 17:03

But in London only? Confused

mrz · 17/03/2012 17:05

They are talking about a series of regional strikes I think but I'm not in the NUT so not sure

juniper904 · 17/03/2012 20:56

Not sure what will happen to my school. Mainly NUT but with a few NASUWT (including me), then a few non-union people.

Last time, head planned on opening individual classes of non-striking teachers. Not happy about it, but can't refuse or it'll become a disciplinary issue.

Sigh.
