Moving house should I move my Y2 DD before or after SATS

Hi

I am after a little advice on whether it would be better to move my DD in Y2 before or after SATS. She has already been moved once this school year but due to the current economic climate we now have to move again to keep my husband's Job.

Feel really awful having to move her again but it is unavoidable. I do really want to move her at the best time.

Any opinions?

Thanks

I am not sure about before or after SATs being that relevant. It is an internal test and as such will happen no matter what school they are in. One issue that might be more relevant is whether you are in an area that is short of school places. If you move now and you have to appeal for a school place then it will be potentially an infant class size regs case at which you will only have a very low level chance of success. If however you leave it till say the middle of June before appealing then you will be appealing for a place for year 3 in September and then there will not be the issue of any infant class size regs. The downside is that your child if they move shortly will have the opportunity to build a cohort of friends before the summer break. If you do not move till much later in the school year then they will not have that opportunity.

I wouldn't take SATs into consideration at all tbh. Her KS1 mark is not really of any relevance. Personally (assuming school places available) I'd look to move again asap - the longer you stay where you are, the closer your DD will get to her school friends and the harder it will be to leave them and have to start again.

... unless you are moving to a place where people habitually change schools at Y3, in which case moving at the same time could be beneficial.

I'd go for ASAP and friends before the long summer holiday.
Unless as admissions says, you'll only get a good school place on KS2 class sizes.

You need to get on the web and Email a few HTs.

Ours would be delighted, we need more children!!

If the schools near to your new home are all oversubscribed, moving school for the start of Y3 (KS2) may work out better. This is because schools no longer have the infant class size limitation of 30 pupils.

Thank you all, for your help.

I must admit I had not given the school holidays much consideration, so it's great you raised it for me. I definitely want some friends for the holidays for her so moving now seems the best option. We can get a Y2 place but have to apply late for Y3.

Thanks again.

It doesn't matter when you do it really - the KS1 is a teacher assessment, built up from lots of evidence throughout the year.

The cut off is the May/June half term - if you move before then, the new school report the teacher assessment, after then and the old school have to report it.
