Yr 1 P eve

Had dd second p eve of the year and confused. The first was glowing but this one they highlighted that she had lost confidence and at times said she didnt feel well (have a very sick mil so lots of doom and gloom at the mo). Was not much positive said. (had my baby with me and diff to concentrate also). They said she is 1b for Maths, 1c for reading and writing. She is reading a yellow band our world stage 6 books. Are these levels ok? I am a secondary teacher but I find this primary levelling all a bit bemusing.

I'm a secondary teacher also. Confusing, isn't it!!

Someone will come along who knows for sure but from what I found out with my DD last year when she was in yr1:

1b is in line with expectations by the end of year 1 so she sounds like she's doing fine.

stage 6 is also doing well. I think anything from 3-5 would be ok by the end of the year.

hopes this helps!

sorry...mis read my chart. probably a reading stage of 4-7 is about average

I teach Y1 and we always say that 1a is average achievement for the end of Y1. If your dd was in my class I would be saying she is bang on track for Maths and slightly below for reading/writing. However, if she is 1c I assume she has begun reading and writing independently and once that happens they generally start to move quickly. We don't have book bands but if the books she's on are of a similar level to the ones we have I would say Stage 6 is a long way above 1c though.
Y1 is a hugely transitional year for most children and it's the year when they really 'get it'. I would say if your dd id reading and writing independently you don't have too much to worry about. I'd be more worried about my her confidence has dipped to be honest.

Yes that is what my hubby is most worried about. Mil has stage 4 cancer and lot of sadness at mo and wonder if that is impacting. She has also said few times she feels poorly to teachers and don't think she is and wondered if perhaps she is hearing too much about mil.

She is def reading q high stage book, so was bit surprised her reading was 1c and herefore lower than her maths. Sometimes think it is all poppy cockWink
