DD at a small independent school and the pool they use has been closed by the council for re-building which is going to take 3 yrs Confused.

So last week they went to a new location, a bit of a distance away. And now they have cancelled lessons for the forseeable future. I think there were complaints from other parents. I could take her to swim lessons, but she wanted to do them with her school friends and we are not members at the expensive sports club also she has enough on with reading, hw, Rainbows etc. She does go with family at weekends, but it's not the same as lessons, and I was relying on the school ones TBH.

No it's ks2 only at primary (although some schools choose to take ks1 swimming). As you are at an independent it's irrelevant as they are under no obligation to follow the national curriculum.

I think there is a requirement for them to do swimming at some stage in Primary (think it's sometime in KS2, but can be at any point).

But I didn't think independent schools were under any obligation to follow the NC?

I know they are not under an obligation, but it's still interesting to know what is expected. BTW they have cancelled it for the Yr 3 & 4's too so that would be KS2 right?

Yes but if yr5 or 6 are swimming then they would be still meeting the nc requirements.

OK, thank you!

Shame, in our school they go from year 3. Can you get together with some other parents who are miffed about no lessons and see if you can persuade the head to find an alternative venue- is there one? Or at least go and see the head and see what the issue is? I'm guessing that if enough parents want the lessons at school they will find a way, so you need to beat your drum! Good luck!

i think they only start in year 5 in our school
