Hiya . I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction, I am in university and i am doing a presentation on the concern for boys levels of literacy and how schools can engage them. I am trying to find reputable newspaper articles or journals and government infomation owhat schools are doing to make a difference / Initiatives and schemes in place,
? celebrity endorsements,
? what plans the government have,
I would be so grateful if somebody could tell me where to look. I have been on the TES site but there is no search engine to trawl info on there. I have just been looking through books and on google so far.
Thanks so much

To search on TES:
Right at the top of the page in the black bar that runs across the top, towards the right hand side there is a box you can write in with a magnifying glass next to it and a drop down box. Type your search terms into the box then click on the drop down to select which part of the site you'd like it to look at.

There is a search engine on Tes, or you can just type your query into Google. There was something involving footballers. I would also search the BBC website

Google David Wray. He is, or was, the guru.

Try these forums on the TES:

community.tes.co.uk/forums/31.aspx
community.tes.co.uk/forums/36.aspx
community.tes.co.uk/forums/14.aspx

You'll have to make an account to post, but it's free.

When I was doing an ITT, I requested loads of resources from the DoE (or whatever it was called that month), including a 'get boys motivated' pack. When it turned up, it was a set of A2 posters in DoE colours with a picture of a boy writing. Hardly inspirational Hmm I binned them all.

One thing I would investigate is when boys began to underachieve. My mum taught year 2 for 38+ years, and she said that historically boys always out-performed girls in education, and no-one thought anything of it because they assumed boys were brighter. Then girls started over-taking them, and that's when people started creating initiatives to help boys catch up. The boys weren't doing any worse- just the girls were doing a lot better.

That's anecdotal, though, so probably no use.
