DD1 is 3.5 and doing very well with all her phonics etc and is putting sounds together to make words and knows many 3 letter words.
Im looking at the next steps really and learning to read. Not pushing her, she has always picked things up really quickly and thrives on learning.

Can any reception teachers/ parents with DC in reception classes tell me whats the best way to encourage her next. Am I right they do Jolly Phonics? What reading books do they have? Any recommendations?

It is wonderful that you have a quick learner. At 3.5, I would suggest sticking with the pre-reading skills, rather than moving on to words.

On books, you could try the ORT Stage 1 books, which are just pictures that tell a story. She looks at the pictures and tells you the story. You can also get a "read aloud" book to accompany the first four stages.

You can also continue reading aloud to her, and discussing the stories, etc.

If she enjoys doing quite, learning-type activities with you, you could do other things with her that are enriching - play board games, for example - rather than trying to teach her to read words.

One of my favourite, reading-type games at that age for a willing learner was the Usborn
Picture Word Lotto

And just spend time with her, talking to her, showing her things, etc. Anything that you do with her that involves fun for her and a lot of interaction with you and others is excellent at this age. My suggestion would be to spend the time with her doing enriching and fun things that you both enjoy. Take her to places and show her things. Your conversations with her will enrich her vocabulary, which will be a bigger benefit to her reading later on.

Have fun going swimming with her and let the teachers teach her to read in a year's time. If she is in a good school, she will be allowed to advance at her own pace, which - given the preparation you are doing - will be fast.

Avoid ORT books unless they are the new Floppy's Phonics ...
Have you looked at the free e books at MN Learning? www.mumsnet.com/learning/ebooks

Thanks for those links MrsZ. They are briliant!

I showed DD1 who loves them and has just read most of the floppy fun phonics book and half of the first Kipper and Biff book about the bugs. She did remarkably well!
