DS is 3.7yrs and off to school (probably) in September, he can recognise about half the alphabet consistently and will say 'that's a Dee, Dee for Daddy' as I have no real clue about phonics and am not 100% sure on the best way to introduce the phonetic sounds of the letters.
He is very interested and must be kept focused on something otherwise we have a few behaviour issues (being addressed with preschools help). So on our afternoons at home I try and do structured activities as well as general play, to keep things from deteriorating in a giant whinge / destruction / pick on baby fest.
Should I start by just printing off the phoneme flashcard thingies (recommendation or could I just make my own??) or buy the Jolly Phonics workbooks (£9 from amazon) or I've read on MN about the Oxford Reading Tree... no idea what it is... or the Biff and Chip / Peter and Jane type books... again no idea just bits I've picked up from browsing this topic??
Just a little advice on how to gently introduce the concepts of reading would be really helpful, TIA
