I thought all local authorities revealed their primary school allocations on the same day... Am I wrong?

My sister said her LA allocate primary places in a couple of weeks, where as ours don't until April 18th. Surely if they don't allocate on the same date then people in neighbouring boroughs can gain an advantage if one borough does allocations before another.

ours are 16th april for primary

But surely they are all done and dusted by then, that's just the date when they publicise them.

From 2014 all LAs will have to offer primary school places on or around 16th April. Some are already falling into line with that schedule but others are not.

I am not sure how you think people in neighbouring boroughs can gain an advantage if the offer dates are different.

In our area, the 4 neighbouring LEAs have come to an agreement about releasing the primary school allocations on the same date.

Ours is early April but I'm not sure about the surrounding boroughs (London)

Ours is 30 March in Kent. It's not really a problem though is it? I know we want to know ASAP where we stand but there is still plenty of time to do anything that needs to be done and all local children are allocated together anyway.

Thanks for the replies...

custardcake that's what I was wondering, if people applied for schools in two different boroughs, they could in theory accept one place while holding on for another in a different borough who hadn't revealed their allocations yet... But I guess they must coordinate things more than I gave them credit for.

You apply through your home LA even if you are applying for a place in another borough. Your home LA sorts things out with the other borough(s) concerned and makes sure you only receive a single offer. You will receive the offer at the same time as your home LA sends out offers to everyone else even if the offer is for a school in another borough that isn't going to send out its allocations for several weeks.

Aha... Thanks so much for clearing that up for me.
