Do I send DS in tomorrow?

Sorry - this is really pathetic me asking you all and not just being confident to make up my own mind.

DS is in reception and at 5 o clock this morning threw up his entire undigested dinner from last night. Then at 7 oclock his lunch from the previous day came up (relatively undigested again). Sorry for tmi!

After that he was sick another couple of times. He's been in bed all day and not eaten anything apart from a weeny bit of dried toast.

I know by tomorrow he'll be better, but not having eaten anything all day and having lost all of yesterday's food he'll be weak.

Is it OK to keep children off if they're not really sick anymore but gaining strength? Its a 20 minute cycle ride to school there and back although its the length of day I'm worried about as well.

I think you should do what you think is best. He needs to be rehydrated.

At DS1 primary school (and DS2 & 3's nursery) the policy is that they have to be 48 hours vomit free before they're allowed back.

workshy · 26/02/2012 19:29

keep him off -he's obviously got a nasty bug and could do with a day of RnR

Panzee · 26/02/2012 19:29

Keep him off. Even if he's not being sick he'll not be completely with it.

sponkle · 26/02/2012 19:29

Do not send the poor boy in. Let him catch up with himself. At my DS school they have a 48 hour policy where he would not be able to set foot in school for 48hrs after last bout of sickness or diahorrea.

My Mum always said that one needs a 'normal' day of eating before going back to school and she was a teacher.

Hulababy · 26/02/2012 19:29

What is your school policy - 24 hour or 48 hour?
When was he last sick?

If he has been ill today and not eaten, then chances are he ought not to be there tomorrow.

mrz · 26/02/2012 19:31

He should stay home for 48hours after vomiting

prettymum · 26/02/2012 19:32

I would keep him off school and phone the school to see what their policy is about sending children back to school. My 5 yr old ds has been off school since last Wednesday with vomiting and diarrhoea and still isn't better so he won't be going in tomorrow and most probably Tuesday as well.

nmason · 26/02/2012 19:33

No the 48 hr policy at our school is there for a reason, we don't want it :-) if that's your schools then you should follow it, I certainly wouldn't send him in tomorrow- young children are great at letting it slip & you'll only get a call to collect him. Fingers crossed the illness doesn't spread to the rest of your family!

skewiff · 26/02/2012 19:34

Oh good. My instinct was to keep him off. I can't bear the idea of sending him in with so little 'energy' in him. So I'll feel fine about phoning and letting the school know in the morning now.

Thank you.

I would keep him at home.

He may still be contagious and feel washed out. It would be a shame if you sent him and he got sent home later in the day and subsequently infected his friends along the way.

My DS and DD had a horrible virus that lasted for days and days but was very up and down and they seemed fine one day and then were back vomiting the next.

Hope h is all better soon. Smile

48 hours after last bout.

Scoobyblue · 26/02/2012 20:29

48 hours after the last time he was sick at our school too.
