Best educational iPhone/iPad apps for Y1 and Y3?

Preferably the type of game where they don't particularly notice it's educational ...

All the ones I've downloaded are either brain-rotting time-wasters or dry and deathly. Particularly need something for DD2 (6.5), as her big sister needs to use the laptop for homework quite a lot now, so is demanding iPad time to make things 'fair'.

Have a look at the Montessori apps for literacy and numbers. My dd is 4 and enjoys these. I think they have a few and aimed at different ages etc
Mathsbingo is quite fun. You can choose levels and if you want to add, subtract etc.

Thanks iwant. Couldn't find any Montessori ones for their age but have downloaded mathsbingo - looks good!

My DS is in Y2 and they use iPads at school. Accoring to his teacher's note they use the following apps - symmetry paint, times tables, telling the time, times id lite, Grade 1 Math

Sqeebles has been very popular here.

Elibean · 17/10/2012 15:05

Squeebles.......for number bonds, tables, division, and spelling: all different apps.

dd1 is Y4 (and now knows all her tables, and puts her weekly spelling lists on)

dd2 is Y1 and has done all her number bonds, and some tables and spellings.

Neutral1 · 17/10/2012 23:59

Another vote for squeebles - not seen spelling and fraction ones before though.

legalalien · 18/10/2012 13:54

Popmath much more popular than squeebles here. And for y3, invasion of the moon monkeys.
