Just wanted to throw this out to see if people think this is fair. My child has recently been taken out of extension Maths class, where the top kids get extra Maths classes because the teacher feels his literacy work is not up to par. From what gather, the practice test he tooks shows him working on a 3b in reading, which I think puts him at the average mark for yr 4. His Maths level is a 4a. He finds the class work in Maths too easy so I was happy that he would be challenged in the extension classes, but now he has been removed from them. To be honest, he does need lots of help in writing, he often procrastinates when he has literacy homework and in class daydreams instead of doing his writing work. Now he feels he is no good and has become discouraged :( What I do not understand is why punish a child by taking away something he flourishes at simply because his literacy is not up to the same standard. I was upset when he bought home a letter stating his Maths needs can be met in class instead of extension. How can they, when he finds the work too easy. Do you think I should have a chat with the teacher?
