What is average KS 1/2 results in terms of levels? I am going to see local primary tomorrow and want to know if they are achieving as they should. Am I right to ask about KS levels and what levels should they be getting? Thank you!

You can't tell anything from the raw numbers.

Google dcsf league tables and the data their will tell you lots.

Look at value added - a score of 1000 means they are achieving what they should with the kids they get, a score of more means they are doing better with their intake, and lower obviously means the opposite.

The interesting score is how many low attainers, middle attainers, and high attainers pass KS2.

This tells you a lot about how good the school is.

(Both middle and high attainers were on track to pass KS2 when they left Y2...)

All the %s tell you about, is that - %s. they don't tell you how your child would do. There's lots and lots of factors that affect KS1 results, both to keep them low, and to artifically inflate them. More important to ask about how they track the individual pupils and how they report to Parents, so they know each individual is making progress against their own starting point, rather than a "national average" figure.
The "feel" as you look around is the key thing. The way the adults and children interact. Other things that are important are individual preferences- some like a bigger school, some like a small school / some will be relying on the support for special needs or EAL and for others that will be less important / some like the idea of lots of out of school activities for the children, to others it's less important / some need wrap around care, others don't / etc., etc.
