a school without breakfast and after-school clubs??

I applied to 6 schools for my DS last month and waiting for the result.
Suddenly I realize I didn?t consider whether they have breakfast and after-school clubs or not.

My first choice is a fantastic school, high in league table and outstanding osfed reports. But on their information, I cannot find anything about breakfast and after-school clubs! I emailed them, but I doubt they do have any.

We both work. We need 8-6 care for my DD. What other working mums do if your kids go to a school without extra hour?s care?

Same here. No before or after school care. It's a small school with very limited space, and not many working parents. So they cite both practical issues and lack of demand. (Not convinced by the demand argument as we had a massive turnout for a fun after school club run by my husband but that's another story....)

So, the school give you the phone number of a couple of after school clubs that pick up, but they are not very well used at our school, (so DS wouldn't have known anyone there) and I would much prefer him to be able to do something on the school premises.

As it is, we reduced our working hours, took the financial hit and do drop offs and pick ups ourselves. Not an option for everyone I know, either financially or logistically. But it's been good. Other working parents at our school generally use childminders. But one friend of mine has cut her hours so that she can at least do drop offs (cm picks up) to make sure that she gets school messages etc. Schools rely a lot on just making announcements at pick up time, or putting a notice on the classroom window. It's very easy to miss the class assembly or not know that they are supposed to bring something in if you're never there.
