Good reason for wanting time off school

I confess, we want to go on holiday in early June - one week during school holidays, the second when they are back to school.

I've got the form to apply for time off school; anyone out there had an application signed off and want to share their tips?!

So far I am arguing that this is the one time that both my & DH's professions allow us to take time off together. I have no interest in all out lying/creating amazing tales of visits to far flung relatives/making it sound like we're doing an extended field trip to cultural hotspots - just interested to know if LEAs like to hear anything in particular!

TIA

We have done it in the past and yes we used the fact that both of our professions at the time made it difficult for us to get away in the school hols. never was a problem, but it's tightened up a lot since. Good Luck!

Whatever you put on forms, headteachers/governing bodies are still most likely to unauthorise it. They aren't being difficult, it's pressure from above.

Yeah, I know it's probably a long shot, but if you don't ask, you definitely don't get...

@ newman: thanks, that's somewhat encouraging.

This is one of those situations when education shows their lack of knowledge about how the real world works. If those in education had more experience of working in the real world then they would realise that for many families getting two weeks when both parents working for different organisations can have holidays together is difficult. In many companies there is a list and it goes around in some agreed fashion and after the first few people, there aren't any weeks left in the school holidays.
I am not advocating a free for all that you take children out of school when ever you like, but there has to be a bit more understanding (and it starts in the DfE and the LAs) about holidays in term time.
If you go away for 10 school days then your child is missing 10 of the 195 days schooling or effectively 5%. As long as there not significant other absence that should be accepted as sometimes being necessary.
I will get off my soapbox now.

I put in the form that DP is unable to take holiday during school holidays. Our holiday was authorised by HT. DC in Reception though so I'm not sure if they are more relaxed about this than they might be for older years.

DP is a sportsman and also teaches children at sports camps during the school holidays- so it is a genuine problem for us.
