DD struggles a little with her maths, I think some of it is a confidence issue, she gets there in the end but it can take a while.

I want to help her along by going through some things with her on a regular basis. I wondered if anyone has any suggestions of books, or websites I can print off sheets from? I'd rather not have computer based things to look at, but happy to print things off.

Also, she needs help learning her times tables so specific suggestions with regard that would help.

I'm not planning on going OTT with her on this but would like to spend maybe 10mins every other night doing a few simple things with her to help.

TIA Smile

Other posters may think that I am on commission from WHSmith because I recommend their books so often, but honestly I have bought loads a few of their own books for maths, literacy, science and mental maths and I, and most importantly DD, think they are great. And you get them cheaper if you order online and get them delivered to a shop. They are really child-friendly and cover all of the NC in a fun way.

thanks indigo great site. Have bookmarked!

I told dd earlier that we were going to spend a bit of time each night on maths and she was happy, said that's the thing that she finds hardest at school

As an experienced teacher and private tutor, may I recommend that you download an excellent FREE resource that teaches Times Tables and develops a very speedy random recall of all tables facts. Children love it as the computer graphics are really good and comparable with popular very sophisticated computer games. The programme is Timez Attack by Big Brainz: www.bigbrainz.com/Download.html

glosgran what a fab game. Ds (yr 3) will absolutely love playing that and learning at the same time.

Choclatespread · 08/02/2012 21:51

glosgran Do you need to be a member for that?

MollieO · 08/02/2012 22:03

I downloaded it without signing up for anything.

Choclatespread · 08/02/2012 22:20

Ok, im going to look at it in the morning, it's just I remember DS, looking at that a few weeks ago, and it seemed like you had to sign up, but that might be something different.

Hi Eddas:

Since you'd like worksheets or workbooks can I suggest either:

Can I suggest Carol Vorderman's maths made easy series - just purchase for appropriate age. If you want to build confidence try going for one that you know your DC can do most things and then go on from there.

amazon UK offers these fairly inexpensively: www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=maths+made+easy&x=0&y=0

also seen these at WH Smith.

If you're after worksheets - try BBC Learning [BETA] website:

Not clear if you are after KS1 or KS2 level worksheets:

For KS1 try: www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/keystage_1/worksheets/numeracy1.shtml

For KS2 try: www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/keystage_2/worksheets/numeracy1.shtml

If you click to 'topics' tab you can get more than just worksheets - games & activities as well.

There is a ton more to explore on BBC Learning [BETA] website - just select schools/ then teachers and then in the orange box middle left - select the key stage (KS1/ KS2) and then the curriculum topic. You can explore games/ worksheets & activities.

Also don't forget BBC Bitesize www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/. There's lots of great practice there - you have to explore a bit - but the video games do offer reinforcement and are child friendly.

Thank you BBC. Having discovered this now as a parent - I think the tv licence is worth every penny!

mrz thanks for links. Look great. Will enjoy exploring.

Eddas - I thought about this - Carol Vorderman's mathfactor programme offers 1000 worksheets for £5.99 - it is on-line worksheets & interactive games - but it is guided and means you can set them to work on the computer and get on with something else yourself

info here: www.themathsfactor.com/perfect-practice.aspx

The downside is that you do have to have a computer - which may be a problem for you at home, I don't know.
