wonder how much notice we will get this year Hmm

joanofarchitrave · 04/02/2012 19:36

Oh God. I hoped all that nonsense was over (year 3).

Had better have something in the back of my mind. Probably Hiccup again.

peeriebear · 04/02/2012 19:37

Friday here is Red Carpet Day and the children can go as a famous person dead/alive, a book character or, bizarrely, a cartoon character. I am firmly edging my two towards literary characters after hearing of children going as Cheryl Cole, Rihanna etc! Still don't know who to pick though, and they can't decide.

philmassive · 04/02/2012 19:38

I won't be able to tell you our theme until two days before when the school remembers to tell us. Hmm

Collision · 04/02/2012 19:43

Well, DS1 (age 9) is going with 2 friends as The Three Blind Blues Brothers Mice and dressing up with shades, a suit, black tie and trilby! He looks great! Need to find ears and a tail.

Ds2 (age 7) is going as The Muffin Man in chef hat, apron, oven gloves and muffins!

As a TA at same school I am dressing in black with battery operated stars hanging over me and a STAR crown and being Twinkle Star!

Grin We love WBD at our school.

Am making the tail as we speak......................

Hulababy · 07/02/2012 21:45

It is on DD's school calendar but not been told of any theme, nor if it is actual dress up. It normally is though, but not normally themed iirr.

If so 9y DD can go as Wendy from Peter Pan. I bought her the dress for her drama show this weekend, so at least this way she gets at least two wears from it!

AChickenCalledKorma · 07/02/2012 21:51

They will be wearing book-themed hats Confused. Waah! Had just about got used to making costumes ... don't know where to start with hats.

Actually that's a lie - DD2 wants to make a large cardboard hedgehog to balance on her head (The Hodgeheg). DD1 is currently obsessed with the Roman Mysteries. Maybe a laurel wreath?

noramum · 08/02/2012 12:48

We already had book-week. DD went as Pippi Longstocking and won the prize for the best costume in her class.

nickelhasababy · 08/02/2012 12:50

I really ought to dress DD up, oughtn't I?
on the saturday as well as the thursday.

i have got a Very Hungry caterpillar baby grow, but maybe another outfit as well....
what would look good on a nickelbaby?

Methe · 08/02/2012 12:52

Anne from the famous 5. I have no idea how to accomplish it yet..

Changebagsandgladrags · 08/02/2012 16:38

Well DS wants to go as Stick Man

Not quite sure how I am going to pull this off without making him look like a turd.

We won last year, so there are standards to maintain.

BeckyBendyLegs · 08/02/2012 16:56

DS1 is going to be 'Where's Wally?' with bobble hat, walking stick, joke glasses, stripy top and blue jeans. DS2 is going to be The Cat in the Hat. Last year he was Mog so this one is easy, I just need to fashion the hat, we have a bow tie.

BeckyBendyLegs · 08/02/2012 16:57

We won last year too, so standards to maintain for us. DS1 was Horrid Henry (seriously easy - I just bought a rugby top off ebay for £2 and messed his hair up and painted scowly eyebrows on his face) and DS2 was Mog the Forgetful cat.

TunipTheVegemal · 08/02/2012 16:59

DS refuses to dress up and DD will be a princess as usual in her nylon Asda princess outfit (thanks MIL).

It is not fair, don't they realise I only HAD children so I could dress them up in amusing costumes and everyone would wonder at my wit and creative brilliance?

BeckyBendyLegs · 08/02/2012 17:10

Perhaps I am a bit sad but I couldn't wait when mine were babies to have the opportunity to get my creative juices going and create costumes for them for such things as WBD. Perhaps because my mum never had the time, or creative juices.

dixiechick1975 · 08/02/2012 17:37

DD's school don't do it - keep seeing suitable for world book day when i'm browing ebay though and fancy dress for kids seems to be going for well over the odds.

ATaleOfTwoCollisions · 08/02/2012 18:19

Dixie - Have you asked why your school do not do it? It is a highlight at our school with the deputy in full regalia usually being a baddie on a scooter and hyping all the children up!

I thought most schools would want to encourage WBD.

trifling · 08/02/2012 18:29

When ours does days like this most parents don't bother. Tbh I think most don't have a culture of books in the home, or money or energy for the costumes. It's usually the few keen mums who do it. It's a bit depressing.

TheAvocadoOfInteriorDesign · 08/02/2012 18:53

DS1 will be Hiccup. DS2 will be Fishlegs. I think DS1 may change his mind and demand to be Norbert the Nutjob but the costume will be the same.

Elibean · 08/02/2012 19:04

dd1 will wear pyjamas and carry a teddy. Foundation and KS1 have PJ parties, get read 'bed time stories', bring their favourite books, eat cookies and drink hot chocolate, at our school.

Sooo much easier, and they love it.

dd2, OTOH, is now in Juniors so life is about to get interesting Grin

itsonlyyearfour · 08/02/2012 19:48

Oh is our school the only one who doesn't do it?

I am quite pleased tbh, most of the parents I know wouldn't have time to make costumes and it would be yet another thing to have to buy last minute on amazon or ebay!

GetDownNesbitt · 08/02/2012 20:44

I have bought a Sherlock Holmes costume for 5 year old.

Mainly because he pronounces it Sheila Combs and it cracks me up.
