If it's of any use to you, you can find all past SATs papers on www.st-josephs-pickering.n-yorks.sch.uk/past_test_papers.htm
It's very useful.

But not to teachers trying to do a practice test with a child whose parents have downloaded all the old papers with them already!

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 30/01/2012 19:10

Fair point - I didn't think of that, I suppose! Apologies to the OP's DC's teachers......!

follygirl · 30/01/2012 20:16

Are these tests supposed to be sat in Year 6? I'm curious as my year 3 dd has just been given similar tests.

Iamnotminterested · 30/01/2012 20:29

Thanks all. No need to apologise to my Dc's teachers, I am not so sad that I would download them before she sits them. I want her to approach them having not seen them, otherwise what is the point of testing?

follygirl - levels 3-5 probably, DD2 is doing similar.

Maybe some parents want to give their children confidence. But SATs benefit the schools and league table formation, not the children. So, as a parent, I won't be downloading all past papers. If the school wants my children to do well it'll have to teach them enough correct answers.

mrz · 30/01/2012 20:41

There are optional National Curriculum tests available for schools to use for Y3, 4 and 5 these are not the same tests as the statutory tests children take in Y2 and Y6

mrz · 30/01/2012 20:43

Only bad schools teach children to the test learnandsay!

Iamseeingstars · 30/01/2012 20:45

In our school the kids turn up on the day and told they are taking a test but never ever practice papers beforehand. The teachers want to know what they can and cant do and/or understand.

We dont do SATS papers, the schools use different testing papers

MrsLovely · 30/01/2012 20:58

Ooh the gold one is the reading comprehension from year 6 2010. I know this because I was a SATs marker!!

nmason · 30/01/2012 21:47

Actually children need to be taught how to answer the questions because if they just come to the test having not seen them they really underachieve unless they are more able. It doesn't make a school bad practicing papers, but if they go over the top and teach to test then obviously it hinders the children.

Feenie · 30/01/2012 22:35

We never teach to the test either, but to not do even one practice would be irresponsible - the conditions the tests are sat under are the same as gcse conditions - desks in rows, walls covered up and teachers unable to help can be pretty intimidating for a ten year old who has never seen it before. A dry run can settle most nerves if they know what to expect.

We usually do a practise test the week or so before the real thing to familiarise children with the layout.
