I have just found www.tutpup.com thanks to an old thread on here. Does anyone else have any good websites to recommend for 6-8 yr old children please.

Thanks for this gosh, it could be just what I'm looking for.

Last summer holidays we signed up for mathsfactor.com, but you have to pay.

My DD is okay at maths, but has no confidence at all and thinks she can't do it, so we used this to boost her confidence a bit. Since our summer subscription ran out I've been meaning to find something similar Smile.

Hi ohmygosh123

Over the last 2 years we've found out about several useful websites ages 6 - 8 include:

BBC Learing (BETA): www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/

You can either select KS1 (or KS2 for older children) and then the subject in the orange border menu middle left side. This will then link you into games/ work sheets to help support learning at home.

BBC Bitesize KS1 (ages 5 - 7 but particularly useful Y2 ages 6/7): www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks1/

BBC Bitesize KS2 (ages 8 - 11) needs a bit of trial and error - some can be too difficult for 8 year olds: www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/

Just saw this maths website off another feed on MN yesterday: www.sumdog.com/

Came across this maths website at some point: www.coolmath4kids.com/ - Needs a bit of exploring before using with children - but there is a lot of different skill levels - so useful for all levels and for practice when a concept is a bit of a struggle or still shaky.

Woodlands Junior School Kent - has brilliant webpage here www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/ - Maths Zone & Literacy Zone very useful. But there's also lots of other subjects: science, history, etc... to explore off the main page.

Free children's e-books: www.oxfordowl.co.uk/Library/Index/?AgeGroup=3

Spelling challenge game: www.timesspellingbee.co.uk/Training/SpellingChallengeMini.aspx

Crickweb - www.crickweb.co.uk/ - this website (started at Crick Primary School) has all sorts of resources by year.

There's many more - but that's a start at least. I also should thank many on Mumsnet who have suggested these websites or games off these websites over the last 2 years - it has really helped us with our 2 DDs. Thanks

mrsbaffled · 30/01/2012 20:33

I have just downloaded Timez Attack - it's brilliant!!! Thanks for the recommendation!

We subscribe to Mathletics, also their Spellodrome, but I (and dd) haven't been impressed with that.

Spelling city is great, you can input your own words as well as using lots on the site. there is a subscription option, but you can also do a lot by registering for free
Education City is a good all round package suitable for younger children, as well as all the free options mentioned below

I use www.mathswhizz.com for my 8 year old son for maths. Its very interactive and offers lots of rewards and a few games for the child as they progress. You get to see their maths age and it also breaks down in detail the areas within maths they need to work the most on and tailors the activities around those areas. In our case for instance its decimals and fractions. You get a really good parents area which gives you a report on their activity and usage. You can also send little notes of encouragement, which my son really likes

I also think Times Attack is great - but can you only use the one free game before you start having to pay?
