This is coming up soon,I have found the previous ones very generalised, things like 'she's doing well',no specifics really.
Can anyone give me ideas of questions to ask 'cagey' teachers?

Just ask what you want to know! I'd be pleased to be told they're doing fine! What do you want them to tell you?

I'd like to know where she needs help, social skills, strength etc.I don't want to come across as pushy so don't really delve too deeply.I suppose I should ask.

'Doing well' means just that..she is on par for the course, as it were.Certainly ask if there is anything you can be doing at home, but if this is the teacher's response, she has no worries about her.I don't think its "being cagey", there's just nothing of note to report on. Which is good , surely?

You could ask what her strengths and weaknesses are socially as well as learning and what personal targets they have given her.

How are the school extending her strong areas and how are they supporting her weaker skills.

What can you as a parent do to assist her.

I think you are more than entitled to ask how your DC is currently doing compared to SAT levels. This then gives you a guide if they're on target for KS1 Y2 and/or KS2 Y6 SAts.

I agree with treas: you could ask about particular weaknesses and whether they would like you to work on these at home? If so do they have suggestions of what you might do or could they get back to you with some suggestions later.

It's difficult to know what to ask because I don't know your DC's year - but if it is coming up to an SAT year - you could enquire if they are on target to pass. If it is Y5, you could enquire if they feel DC should consider 11+ exam for grammar school (if this is available in your area).

What I would suggest - is consider some of your worries - maybe list them. Then select the 3 that most concern you - as you have very little time - and see what the teacher has to say. So, if for example, your DC's spelling is terrible - you might want to raise that you're noticed this and would like to give more support at home, do they have any suggestions on what you might do at home.

You could also ask what she is working on at the monet, and what her targets are.
