Don't know which school to choose.

The school we are zoned for is not in a great area. A lot of the children in our area choose to go to the catholic primary instead but that's not an option for us. I can get him a place at the school next to where I work but it's report is not as good as the local one. The big advantage is that it's next to my work so I am on hand if needed and might even make the odd assembly etc. The main advantage I can think of for the local one he is more likely to make friends that live locally. I have no idea what to do.

Is it likely you'll have the same job for the next 7 years?

I would go for the best school I could. The local one has a better report AND his friendship groups will usually be based round home.....

Yes it is a good job, it's actually the high school next door to the primary. My husband posted the placing request today for the other school and now I am thinking we have done the wrong thing.

Have you visited the schools? This really helped us in our decision. My DD goes to a local school which is in a more deprived area but is a really lovely school, it's well funded by the local authority and it seems that more effort is put into community events than other schools in the area. DD is much happier there than she was at her pre school which was smaller and in a better area but was quite cliquey. I wouldn't necessarily rule any school out based solely on the local area.

I will do this next week. I am really scared of making a bad choice for my son.

assuming you are likely to stay in the same job for the duration, is it likely that your company will move to a new site? E.g. are employment numbers at your branch on the increase/decrease?

No moving site as it is a new school that I work in. I do like the idea of him just being next door, but local friends are important too.

Does anyone know anything about Lorne Street Primary? My daughter is to enroll my granddaughter at this school. As we are a relatively poor family we do not have many options. I am aware of placement requests but we really do not know which school would be best? I have always believed it is good for a child to be educated within their catchment area as they gain a sense of community presense. They develop alongside their peers within the school and community? I maybe wrong? Any suggestion would be much appreciated!
