My DS is in Y1 and I want him to do lots of addition and subtraction exercises. It is not that easy. Another thing is that he cannot learn the time. It looks as he does not really get it. Would be grateful for all your suggestions.

Many thanks!

I have recently done quite a bit of work with my DS and used ict games, topmarks.com, IXL maths practice and a few others, try and google it.

My DS is in Y2 now and just about knows the hour and 1/2 hour. I wouldn't expect too much.

Have saved the links. Thank you!
So I should not worry about the time then?

I think bitesize has time stuff too (or I may be confusing it with educationcity, which defn does, but is a paying one)

Our school didn't expect kids to be able to tell the time in yr1.
This book was a hit with DS

Hi LoveFruitsandVeg

BBC has a new learning website at www.bbc.co.uk/learning which is in Beta (so being trialled) just now.

If you select school & then teacher (from pictures on the right of the page) you can select KS1 on the yellow menu tabs and then select the topic.

The maths topics are here: www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/keystage_1/topics/maths_ks1.shtml

And you can select the type of maths to review.

If you select using and applying mathematics you get links to all sorts of resources here: www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/keystage_1/topics/maths_using.shtml

Spend a bit of time exploring and I'm certain you can find a lot of what you're looking for to help review and build skills.

Snakes and Ladders is also excellent - played forward for addition and backwards for subtraction. Start off letting them count, but gradually encourage them to add or subtract in one big jump.

Best of luck.

Think yr1 is quite early to be understanding telling the time

blackeyedsusan · 16/01/2012 14:51

year one i think is telling the time to the hour and possibly half past the hour.

funnypeculiar · 16/01/2012 18:35

dd is y1 & is doing hour & half hour atm.

May be I was just expecting too much from him when it comes to telling the time. I actually did not know how much the kids at such age know about the time.
