I'm a parent helper. This term the teacher has asked me to read to the children a short, whole, story to help them to understand how a story is constructed. I need to be able to read to a mixed group of 4-5 children for about 10-15 minutes and discuss afterwards. I have a few readers at home from an old reading scheme called One, Two ,Three and Away that I think would be ok. Any suggestions and any other tips would be very gratefully recieved.

Thanks

You could try Aesop's fables or Greek myths and legends - my dss loved those. I also remember getting a book of myths from around the world from the local library - might be worth having a look in there.

What a good parent helper you are! Sounds a bit cheeky of the teacher to ask you to plan an activity though Hmm

Lawrence anholt's seriously silly stories are excellent for this age group. They are funny versions of traditional fairy storiese.g cinder boy. They are worth seeking out.

Something from the Just So Stories?

Please not One Two Three and Away!!!

Does the teacher not have any suitable books?

Not a fan then mrz.

I started this at the end of last term and I read Antony Browne's Hansel and Gretel. It was good but it was too long and as I have two groups to read to I was exhusted after reading it twice.

Have a copy of the just so stories but not a picture one.

Greek myths are a great idea I have a small copy which would be good although maybe too short.

The school is currently without it's library and undergoing a major redevelopment programme. Hopping to be able to get in and help sort out the new library when it's ready and have a good nose look at the resources.

Shall look up the seriously silly stories sounds great, love silly stories. Want to read them Bad Jelly the Witch but far too long.

Thank you for the replies.
