Primary admissions - can I just check...

Hello admissions experts (and can I say how enormously helpful I have found all the advice on this topic here, thank you!).

I just want to check something. We have moved house in the last month (sold our house and moved into rental), and have changed counties (from Gloucestershire to South Gloucestershire). I have applied for a 2012 primary place for ds1 based on our new address, have registered for council tax, requested change of address for child benefit. But as they don't know of our existence here I have applied without an UID number. It did say I could do this.

But I have had two letters from Gloucestershire council (to old address), with a specific UID number, reminding us to apply. So far, I have just ignored this, but I am a little worried that I should be doing something about having a UID in the wrong place.

I just wanted to check that I haven't missed something I should be doing?

It's fine. I applied for DS without an UID - they assign one to you when you apply. You can call South Glouc and ASK them what your UID is. But it doesn't mean there is a problem :)

Thanks whomoved! In my head I was sure that was the case, but as the deadline looms I seem to imagining possible complications! I would have felt a little better if they had asked for proof of address (Gloucestershire say they want this info before the deadline), but maybe S Gloucs do that after the deadline has passed.

Having a UID in Gloucestershire but not applying there won't do you any harm at all. South Gloucestershire will assign you a different UID.

Thank you prh, I shall stop fretting.

I would get in touch, confirm they have your application and email them a copy of your council tax bill - that's what I did. Round here they do 'newcomers' manually once the deadline passes. So it's worth giving them a call or dropping them a note. :)

what is a Uid?

prh47bridge · 07/01/2012 01:02

Unique ID - a number which uniquely identifies a particular applicant. Some LAs use them, some don't. If your LA uses them the UID they give you will be generated by their computer system. It has no significance outside your LA.
