SATS marks to transfer schools

Please can someone point me in the direction of some understandable information about the SATS points system? My children are transferring schools and have got new assessments but I don't know what they mean and it's making my brain hurt trying to google it! They are year 1 and year 3, if that helps.

SATs are a measure of schools not of pupils. I think you mean NC levels. If you are going to a new state school they will take your child regardless, probably do their own assessments and work on the basis of those. (Records can take quite a while to transfer.) If it is a private school they should tell you what they need to know, but will probably do their own assessments (which doesn't necessarily mean exams).

If the schools are in the same LEA pupil information may all be on electronic records immediately available. In Y1&3 it will be current levels from teacher assessment. Y3 will have end of KS1 SAT results too.

Thank you - I didn't explain myself very well Blush Blame lack of sleep.
I just don't understand what the numbers mean. For example DS is at the end of his first term in Year 1 and has 2b for maths - is that ok? And DD who is year 3 has 3s for most things. It all seems very complicated!

2b in Y1 is good as it is the expected level for most children at the end of Y2
3s in Y3 spot on
