End of term School reports

Out of curiosity, could you please state the length of your child's school report and whether they attend a state or private school?

I'm particularly interested in the infant school years - Reception, Year 1 to year 3 inclusive.

The reason why I would like to know is that my children's school reports used to be detailed and in individual subjects, approximately 1/3 of an A4 per subject. This term, my child's end of term school report was 1 side of an A4 sheet of paper. It read more like a summary of what had been covered during the term rather than information on my child's progress.

I've asked one of the members of staff, and she informed me that school reports given as a summary on 1 side of A4 is now standard practice in schools. Is that true?
Because I really miss the old style school reports. This new style report doesn't tell me anything new, information wise nor how well my child is progressing in individual subjects.

We only provide one report per year, at the end of the summer term with a page for English, same again for maths, half a page for science and ICT and a full page for the remaining subjects. levels are given for English and Maths but not for anything else. ( state primary)

We only get one report per year. I thought that was the norm for state primaries.

We get 2 reports a year, November and June ish. DD is in Reception in an independent school. Her November report was 2 pages of A4, one paragraph covering each of the Early Years areas, plus a general paragraph from her teacher, one from head of Lower School and one from Head Mistress.

No report here, just a copy of the register/recorded days attended and days absent. Reception.

State school.

One full report towards the end of July.

Termly effort and attendance reports, which don't really tell us much, just grades for effort in each curriculum area.

2 parents evenings a year, one in October which is informal and chatty, one in March which is the formal evening.

Yr 1 private

3 or 4 paragraphs on A5 - we get one every half term and more detailed in summer.

DD is in independent prep school.

We get grades for all subjects mid term 3 times a year, in addition to this we get English, Maths and Science grades at the end of each term. We get a full writte report once a year IIRR. All now done online on Scholar pack. Full report is still detailed though.

One full parent's evening a year and two optional ones following grade sheets in the other two terms.

Dcs in state school. Reports every half term. 1 Parents evening (appointment, preferably don't bring the dcs) & 1 open evening, (informal, come along for a chat). The reports are 1 a4 side with basic info on nc level they are at & indicator if on track for end of year target (and what target is). Details on attendance, gift listing & ieps.

Thank you! It appears that I'm slow in keeping up with the times. I will have to get used to these A4 1 siders.

Although I will, in future, have more specific questions to ask on parent-teacher meetings!

I appreciate your feedbacks and I feel somewhat more reassured. I will also show this thread to a couple of parent friends at school who have had the same concerns as me.

Thanks again!
