In short, yesterday we got DD Y1 end of term report, positive report if a little dry, all core subjects are B'sConfused seems very formal that DD is assessed so formally so early.
DD is 5.4 very young in her class, "very able child" teacher words spoken at the first parent's meeting, excellent reader, orange band currently, after holidays being moved to purple.
As I said few positives in DD's report, but I don't understand what the B's are representing, my feeling is that DD is somewhere in the middle with those B's, but I can't be sure, Does anybody understands this form grading? TIA.
We did not receive any NC levels nor end of Y1 targets, parent meeting at the beginning of Y1 went very well, there were no concerns on teachers part, but I can't help but think after reading this report there is a lot of contradiction in terms.

I would say a B is pretty good, and shows no concerns at all.

Think you need to ask them OP; do it before they break up then you are not stewing over Christmas.

I would like to speak to the teacher, but I wouldn't like to come across as a PITA parent, I avoid talking to the school staff unless necessary, and I am not sure if this warrants a ten minutes conversation.Smile
I am aware that children tend to do better in their work at home and perhaps not as well in the classroom, but DD tends to be very consistent at school as well as home.
Few comments related to DD losing concentration at times, and not "fully" participating in discussion, teacher also commenting about DD being able in maths, all the usual, adding and taking away up to 20, halving numbers, doubling up, measuring accurately and beginning to scratch on time tables, but she still awarded a B Confused
At home DD will write and add to digit numbers on the piece of paper not using any props, example, what is 27+13 and so on, or what is half of 50 or half of 26,
How do I explain this to the teacher without coming across as a stealth pushy mum, that she is just not getting DD at all?

Have a close look at the report as the B might be NC levels ie 1B or (more likely given that she is very able 2B - can you find a 1or 2 on the report ?

Well if it means B as in A, B, C, why wouldn't you be happy?

They've verbally said she's doing well, and they've given her a B - which means doing well Confused

A C would be in the middle. A D would be below average. A B would be above average, and an A well above average.
