dd 4.5 enjoys reading and used to love the magazines with spot the difference/word search/writing a few words/counting etc but they all seemed to be too young for her now.
are there any magazines/puzzle books for older children or any websites with games for reading/early maths?
she is in reception but reads quite well

Hi familyfun

There are higher level phonics at: www.mrthorne.com/t1/

There are some KS1 literacy worksheets here: www.bbc.co.uk/schools/teachers/keystage_1/worksheets/literacy2.shtml

I highly recommend having a look for things on the new BBC Learning (BETA) website: www.bbc.co.uk/learning/

Select Schools on the right - and just follow links in the box (middle left) for curriculum in KS1. Lots of worksheets and ideas - also a useful sneak peak into what kinds of resources are out there.

There's also the bitesize section (which is the review for SATs games) on the bbc learning webpage (middle - look for orange fish with teeth - & select KS1).

thanks you psbd, dd had a look at oxford owl but her school use ruth miskin and i couldnt get any of those books up for her so she tried the ORT and the books at her level of decoding were too old for her understanding iykwim. and the maths was just basic counting unless i looked in the wrong place.
i will definitley look at those links with her.
thanks you

Phonics Play is excellent for practising blending - at least some of the games are (would recommend games involving pirates/aliens/dragons/monkeys/squirrels - some of the others are less good). Some of the site is free and some is pay-for (£12 a year) but you can get a lot out of the free part. There are six levels, and within those you can select the sounds that you want the games to use.

DD also liked Oxford Owl, but my one gripe is that the words in the books come up too small on my computer (a 15in laptop). You can zoom in, but then you can't see the whole book page.

The top levels of PP are more oriented towards spelling (again, I think, involving monkeys and squirrels) which might be more useful for her.

thanks vesela, the maths stuff is useful too, dd cant tell time yet or count money so those might help her Smile
