Behvioural Optometrist & private insurance

I'm thinking of making an appointment to for a visual assessment for my DD who is 7 and has recently been put on school action and an IEP as she has fallen behind average in writing and maths.

I and the SENCO believe she has a working memory problem and the SENCO thinks she may be dyslexic (although they won't test for anythin yet).

I'm quite overloaded with information and all the things that could be wrong with her and what we could do but I thought a good first point of call after reading MN would be a behavioural optometrist.

As the cost for the initial assessment is £375 I've just had a useless conversation with our private health insurers who said dyslexia isn't covered she would need to have a doctors referral for a suspected medical condition. I argued that the medical condition would surely be diagnosed after the visual assessment but was going round in circles really.

Have any of you who have seen a BO done so via private health insurance and could tell me what the process was? Really don't want to pay all that money although know it will be money well spent!

No cover under private health insurance I'm afraid. You could ask for alternatives, my initial assessment was only £150, although it wasn't very high tech, but I think he will cover everything. Going for the first 'traetment' session pn Friday, will be £80 for an hour x 10 sessions approx so it adds up, but I'm hoping after 5 sessions we'll see enough difference to make it worthwhile, or not, in which case we may review if it's worth the rest....
