I'm just wondering if anyone can advise or offer me some insight.

DS is Yr5 now. His Y2 SATs marks were all 2A. At the end of Yr3 his reading was 4C but literacy and maths were still 2A. At the end of Yr4 his reading was 4B and literacy and maths 3B. He did an assessment in literacy last week at school and got 3B again. I don't know the results for his maths assessment yet.

I'd like to chat to his teacher because it's 2 and a half years since he did his Yr2 SATs and he has only gone up 2 sub-levels in those subjects. His Yr4 teacher was happy that he'd gone up 2 sub-levels in that year which is true, but looking at the bigger picture since Yr2, he seems to be making really slow progress.

Does this seem reasonable progress? Am I worrying about nothing? I know the assessments only show what he's achieved that day but if the teacher says it does reflect the level of his usual work, should I be concerned.

Thanks for any help.

3B is the national expectation for Y4. He may have been just a 2A one mark up from a 2B in his KS1 sats.
A chat with his teacher is a good idea, she should be able to tell you where his specific areas of weakness are and you can help support him to make better progress.

He should have made one level of progress in 2 years, so he's not making expected progress in writing and maths - however he's made better than expected in reading.

The assessments aren't done on exams (or shouldn't be) they should be a mark from his work done all year.
