Feeder preps for St Paul's Girls

Hello - I bet this has been answered time and again, but could anyone please let me know which are the main feeder preps for St Paul's Girls within a reasonable cycling/driving/bussing distance from Wimbledon (I've sussed out Bute House and Kensington Prep so far... btw do they have a school bus?)
Thanks!

Hi
I assume you live in Wimbledon? That's quite a journey. Getting through Putney and up Fulham Palace Rd could take hours in the morning! The tube is not much better. And you have Wimbledon High on your doorstep! Putney High is also closer than SPGS and both WH and PH do 4-18.

Bute House is the feeder and a long way from Wimbledon. I'd consult the school to find out about buses. Located opposite to SPGS in Brook Green, the other side of Hammersmith. Lottery to get in at 4, selective at 7.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply milkshake3. Yes, we live in Wimbledon - but are prepared (I think) to move closer to Hammersmith if and when. I've looked through WH's website and walked past - a little drab, methinks, but maybe appearances are deceptive. I'll go and visit. We're also thinking of Prospect House for prep (good?), I've arranged a visit for early next year.

Hi mumsw19
I would live in Wimbledon over hammersmith 100% of the time! Having said that you could look in the alphabet streets in fulham by bishops park to maintain some access to greenery. But that's off point!

Don't know anything about Prospect House but I'd check they send girls to SPGS if your heart is set on it, and indeed all their destination schools. You are aiming right at the top academically. Go and look at WHS and PutneyHS. Have friends with DDs at both, and love it. If you do venture towards Hammersmith also look at Latymer Upper (coed and easier for girls to get into than boys) and Godolphin and Latymer. Again, friends with DDs at both and v happy. The more you look at the more the fog will clear.....at least that's what I found.

How old is your dd?

You are placing a tremendous amount of pressure on both of you, by assuming she must go to spgs, to the point where you'd move for the privilege. As milkshake says the others are very good schools too. Have you looked at spgs? Can you really tell it will suit your dd aged 11. I wouldn't have had a clue which secondary school was right for my dds before they even started primary school, I am still extremely unsure now they are in recep and yr 2. As for school buses, why not ring the schools you're thinking of and ask?

to be honest, there isn't a feeder prep for SPGS within reasonable distance of Wimbledon - there's no way I'd consider making a primary/prep age child do that journey twice a day every day ...

and would much rather live in Wimbledon than Hammersmith!! (I went to G&L aeons ago)

Thank you all for contributing to this. So the consensus is that I should stay in Wimbledon and look for a good prep in the area. I have to say I can't disagree. We love it around here, and there are definitely some good schools... I'll start worrying about senior school when DD is ready for it - it won't be for a while anyway.

Very sensible decision! If your dd is spgs material, she will get in whatever school she goes to (the reason preps mentioned are feeders is because they are highly selective) and by 11 she could do the commute. In the meantime, don't mess up her childhood with endless travelling.

Why are people so down on living in Hammersmith? "Brackenbury village" (as the Estate Agents like to call it) is by Ravenscourt Park and 5 minutes walk to the river. It is a lovely family area with a great park on your doorstep. You would be able to walk to SPGS in 10 minutes and Godolphin and Latymer would be on your doorstep.

For Preps you would have easy access to Bute House, Latymer Prep, Ravenscourt Park and Chiswick and Bedford Park. All these feed SPGS.

Hammersmith is great. You have 4 tube lines to connect you to the rest on London. You are a 10 minutes bus journey from Nottin Hill in one direction and Chiswick in the other.

I don't think you can beat Brackenbury (as long as you can afford it) but if you do want something even greener look at Chiswick. Three tube stops or a 15 minute bus ride would get you to SPGS/Bute House etc.

If your dd is spgs material, she will get in whatever school she goes to

I would agree very strongly with this (went to completely rubbish state primary school followed by SPGS).

second this

If your dd is spgs material, she will get in whatever school she goes to

also there were a few girls at G&L (almost as academic as St Pauls) when i was there who had been to the feeder schools and whom could tell that they would not have got in had they not been extensively prepared for the entrance exams. They were fine in the UII but really struggled later and were very unhappy.

JesusChristBenton: thanks for the advice (Brackenbury village etc.) Will keep it for future reference.
