Books for reception class

My twins are in reception and have just turned five. They get books and key words sent home every week and are progressing well and they both want to do more. I want to encourage them while they are still keen to do homework, as I'm aware that this phase may pass, but I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do.

At home we have the Read At Home books (Kipper, Biff et al), but are there any other books that you've found worked well? Something geared towards reception kids who are learning to read as opposed to the usual Julia Donaldson/Dr Seuss stuff, which we also have but I find work better for bedtime stories.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

I've just bought a set of Red Nose Readers for ds and my nephew who are both 5 (I'm going to give each of them a few for christmas as they're keen to have books they can read themselves).

They're by Alan Ahlberg and Colin McNaughton, so a writer/illustrator with good track records, and get positive reviews on Amazon.

I got them from the Book People btw, who are selling the whole set for £9.99

My ds is about to turn 5 and is also learning to read.
At home we have the songbird phonics which he loves to read.

The chip biff floppy do a 'phonics' series (4 bookes in levels 1, 2,3 etc) which is quite good
We also have the usbourne first reading books - these are phonics based but there is a page for the parent to read (to set the story) then a page for the child to read

mrz I've just had a look at this site and it's brilliant, thanks for recommending. Ds is in YR and is currently on Stge 2 ORT, new books being sent home seem to be a bit hit and miss at the moment, we've currently had Singing Dad for over a week, was expecting a new book on Friday but it hadn't been changed, it's good to keep ds enthusiam for a new book going but I feel slightly deflated when books aren't being changed, so clairefromsteps I completely see where you're coming from with regards to what to offer your dc as an extra encouragement at home while it's still there.
