TA informed class about the man in red

So, my 8yo comes home with the tale that during afternoon prayer time a child in class asked to remember Santa in prayers. The class were then informed by the TA that Santa is a fictional character. Am I completely wrong to be angry about this? My child is quite upset, and I feel that to disclose or not should be the parents choice. Anyone else had to deal with similar?

....and also separated by a humongous salary difference...

ColourfulSmilies · 09/12/2011 19:29

Well considering the humongous difference in qualifications and the humongous difference in level of responsibility I'm not surprised......Hmm

Thank you feenie You hadn't been ignored though, I wrote "bet the teacher was mortified" as in when he/she heard TA say it.

TBH dont think its worse/better if TA or teacher I wouldnt say the training/sallary etc comes into it, any adult should know not to disclose the secret, and anyway he IS real he just is sooooo busy it just doesn't make sense for him to waste his pressies on the non-believers so saves them all up for those who keep the magic alive.

OP I have a joke bag of lumps of coal here happy to post them to you if you want them for the TA Grin

Ok Feeni, didn't realise that I would be so scrutinised for simply asking for an opinion on this TA's behaviour, also just to let you know; I'm very aware of the difference between TA's and Teachers as I am currently in my NQT year- although fortunately for everyone involved, my students are too old and jaded to believe in anything :)

Father Christmas is also St Nicholas. Anybody who went to a Catholic school was regularly required to pray for saints. Perhaps the OP should point this out to the TA.

Feenie · 09/12/2011 19:38

Sorry again, planetpotty, definitely misunderstood that last bit Blush

planetpotty · 09/12/2011 19:49

Awww its ok Grin

thebestisyetttocome ooooohhhh thats genius! OP please give the TA a big ol' sack of lumps of coals then ask her to tell the class about how St Nick is a real saint ........and now we must pray for St Nick (and his sack full of WII'S!)

fleecesmum · 09/12/2011 19:55

lol @ planetpotty & thebestisyetttocome.

I'll certainly do that and may also take the chance to inform the class that God isn't real....should go down well in a catholic school Xmas Hmm

Why is your kid in a Catholic school if you don't believe in God? Hmm

teacherwith2kids · 09/12/2011 20:41

Had a bit of a moment today, tbh - we were doing the origins of various Christmas traditions in RE, and I read them a version of the St Nicholas story in which St Nicholas drops packets of gold into stockings of 3 poor sisters to explain the origins of Christmas stockings.

Cue Child A: 'St Nicholas is Santa's real name'
Cue child B ' But in the story Mrs Tw2K has just read us, it says St Nicholas died. But Santa's alive...'

fleecesmum · 09/12/2011 21:37

@ MyChildDoesntNeedSleepAtXmas Because of the smaller class size, better facilities and higher Ofstead marks....why do you send your kids to their school?
I have no objection to my child attending a faith school, I just choose not to subscribe to that faith myself. :)

@ MrsTW2K I really do sympathise with you! If a child had de-bunked or even prompted the whole Santa thing, I probably wouldn't have been so cross. I think it was the fact that it was an adult who spoiled it for her- I mean would it have cost her anything to include santa in the daily prayer...they quite often include dead pets and so on....x

Clearly the TA was too naughty as a child to get a visit from Father Christmas. I can see why this has made her bitter.

catnipkitty · 10/12/2011 10:24

Spending a tedious morning at work reading this thread answering emails and it is most amusing Xmas Grin especially Santa vs god as fictional characters! Shall we start on the tooth fairy next Xmas Wink??
