Please help me to decide between two schools

Please help me to decide between two schools. They are both in South London.

School A: faith school, really good academic achievement, in high poverty area, 70% of non-British pupils (and mostly dominated by a particular ethnicity), 0.8miles from home but convenient for the train station which we use for work
School B: public school, still good but slightly worse than school?s A academic achievement, in moderate poverty area, more balanced ethnic mix (50% non-British, but no dominating ethnicity), 0.8miles from home but totally opposite from the train station (would have to use the car on daily basis).

We are the same faith as school A, and ideally it would be faith school, but a bit afraid to send him into school A, if frankly, due to domination of one particular culture and mentality of non-working families in high poverty area. On the other hand I feel that I am being judgemental.

Any advice, please??

school b i think as you said only slightly worse academically. though a HUGE factor for me, even at this stage, would be the feeder high schools. Which one is better? i would saccrifice primary for secondary given theres little between.

happyAvocado sorry I will not specify on here, don't want to discriminate anyone, but I found that category of people a bit rude at church - they tend to come late, usually bigger than average families, then they would squeeze you out of the bench trying to fit all on it. I tend to be quiet and shy polite and I find if I had to deal with them, it's difficult for me.

sunnyday123 there is a variety of secondary schools. Ideally we will move before DC1 starts secondary, ideally to a grammar area, but it depends on how academic DC1 appears to be, which is diffilcult to foresee at the moment. The local schools vary, none outstanding, but there one or two good public schools and one good catholic school.

Just an update. My over-liberal DH went to see school A during children dropping off time. Even he said it is too overdominated by one culture. I trust his judgement, because he is very laid-back and relaxed about culture mix. Hence we have 95% decided to go with school B as our first option. I might have to buy a bike with a child seat for convenience of going to school B, though!!

Thanks for letting us know! I'm sure you have made the right choice for your family as you asked all the right questions. Good luck!

Last days before admission deadline, I am having a second thought!
2011 results just became available, and school A is having outstanding truly academic results, while school B is going down the hill (still slightly above national average, but if this continues next year, they will become below national average).
Other than that, I am still loving the school B.
Really really confused!

You could always give school B a quick phone call to see what they are doing to improve their results?

Supermumsecret · 09/01/2012 13:55

making sweeping statements about a group of people is very narrowminded and it seems like you know which school you already want your child to attend so do it and stop asking for advice that you frankly don't need.
and as avocado asked what ethnicity is this that are religious and live off benefits?

School B definitely.

I have experience with my eldest children of a "school A" and there's no way I would send my youngest child to a school like that again. Social relationships are important, and I am placing that higher than academic success for my youngest daughter who is also starting school this year.
