Lists of verbs, Adverbs and Adjectives

I've been told DS needs to make his writing 'more exciting' (I completely agree!). I was going to print out a list of verbs, adverbs and adjectives for him to use, as advised by the teacher, but am so confused myself by what is what. Does anybody have any online lists I can print out?

Thanks

Better to collect them from his reading - if he knows how to identify them in what he reads, then he will be more likely to use descriptive language in his own writing.

You could keep a list of the ones he identifies - my class have special little notebooks to collect any they find, and then we share.

Oh that sounds like a better idea. But can someone explain in very simple terms what each one means so I can help him to start off? I know we did this when I was at school but the only thing I actually remember is playing the game describing the parson's cat! And googling is confusing me

A verb is usually said to be a "doing" word so eat, think, walk, run, to be ...
An adverb modifies the verb runs quickly
An adjective describes the noun or pronoun so a big dog and a deep, dark wood, a bad cold
