I wonder if anyone can shed any light on the merits of these two schools? Particularly academic record and social atmosphere. Can Channing be a bit "snooty"? I love what I know of PGHS - very down to earth and multicultural but excellent academically. Thanks for any pointers.

Recently, have learn alot about channing! it is most certainly not snooty! Very down-to earth families who alot of them work very hard and sacrifice to be able to send ther kids there. The academics are second to none. the girls are well rounded and are broadly educated. It is not in the same league as Shhs/CLSG but sends just as many girls to oxbridge etc. IMO, it is a far better school than PGHS. It has more facilities, more opportunities and on the whole a lot more t offer. Channing is def a great school as is PGHS i am sure but not on the same level as Channing

Def not snooty!

This is not the first time I have seen people asking this on here and I am really not sure where this image comes from! It is conceivable, I suppose, that the school might have been snooty 10 or 20 years ago but definitely not now.

One thing that may help you to consider is that the school is quite international in feel. Among my DD's circle of very nice friends, there is almost no-one who is 100% British: most girls have one or two foreign parents. Yet, it is not a transient school either - most families are simply people who came here years ago and sort of never went home. Yes, there are some very wealthy families, but there are by no means all upper-class British, nor are all families wealthy. This international mix means many cultural backgrounds, of course, and IMO this contributes to a general feeling of tolerance and friendliness.

Agree with Fleetundo otherwise. There have been a couple of other threads on Channing recently, with some helpful comments from other posters.

I just realized that this was posted under "primary schools". My DD is at the senior school. I have no experience of the junior school (Fairseat) but do know some families who have younger siblings there and I assume that what i said still holds.
