DD (6) loves reading. She reads whenever she can and enjoys it alot. Thus it is her favourite subject and is doing really well at it.
She has never really liked maths. It just does not interest her and I am failing to help her Sad For example, she does not know odd and even numbers and lacks confidence when the numbers get above 20. I have asked the teacher about helping her and we have been pointed in the direction of various websites which keep her interest for a short period but not for long.
At parents evening I was told dd's writing needs urgent attention as her letter formation was very poor. In class 1 dd used a pencil gripper so to my mind she is "behind" already as she has only recently started holding her pen "correctly". She practices letter formation most nights
Her teacher has now started sending work home that she has not finished in class due to lack of understanding or for me to help her more.

Is there anything I can do to help her? I am all out of ideas and feel like I nag her all the time. I have 2 other children and dd is my oldest so I do not have loads of time either.

thanks

This sounds very like my 6 year old ds who has just been assessed for dyspraxia. He takes a long time to finish work as the motor skills involved in writing cost him a lot of effort, and he tires easily as a result. He is just getting to grips with getting changed for PE and organising himself. His reading is above average and his numeracy is below.
We were advised by the SENCO to get a GP referral, and he was recently seen by an Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist. There's no magic cure for dyspraxia - just persistence and encouragement - but the assessment has been helpful wrt school as his teacher is aware of his motor difficulties and he now has some extra TA help.
Going down the GP route isn't quick but it has been worth it. Hope this helps.
