I've started to teach my daughter (almost 5) to read (we're in Japan and she goes to a Japanese kindergarten)and want to buy a beginning reader series (UK English). Follifoot Farm was recommended to me but would like to check if anyone has other recommendations that their kids have enjoyed. Thank you for your advice!

I used Jelly & Bean / Follifoot Farm and thought they were ideal for parents/tutors. Many of the reading schemes are more suitable for classroom use IMO.

Any idea where I can get second-hand FF sets? They're quite pricey to buy from the distributor in Japan (and even in the UK, they seem high end) ...

Jelly & Bean are quite new, so I doubt there is much of a secondhand market. I have a full set that DD has finished with, but I don't want to sell it (I lend it out to friends happily) as it is very useful to refer back to if ever DD is unsure of some phonemic knowledge.
