Due to some issues at school, we have been home edding dc for the past year.
We have recently moved house and are hoping to get dc back into school after Christmas. I am gettting a bit jumpy as I want to feel fairly confident that shewill be where she 'should' be with regard to what she should know.
I know that anecdotally the mention of He is going to get me the rolling eye look, if not to my face then behind closed doors. I realise that each school teaches with some variation but I'm getting the noia that the school will be dying to tell me about gaps in her education etc etc.
Is there something I can test her with such as a SATS paper for example so that I can at least reassure myself that she is not behind her peers.

There is a year 5 Optional SAts paper but they are hard to find online! You could do a year 6 paper ( which has a wide spread of levels) as there is little difference between them. An "average" child at the beginning of year 5 should be around a 3B/3A which you would be able to work out from the level thresholds which are also published online for yr 6 papers

Another alternative ( especially for maths) are the CGP books for year 5 which will give you a good idea of what she is expected tio be able to cover!

Yes, of course. You can buy sats papers for ks 2 from wh smiths.

At the beginning of y 5 she should be a level 3 or 4.

Thankyou so much. I wasn't sure what the expected levels would be.
I should just relax really, I think I'm getting myself in a state about her going back to school full stop.

She's only half a term into year 5, so give her some end of year 4 optional tests. Amazingly, I've found a link to the older tests published in 2003 here.

Are you testing her to prove something to the school or do you want to provide levels so the school can place her in the right groups straight away?

I would be wary. If people want to be rude about home ed, let them, thats their problem. If you test her at home, will you be able to mark them? Maths and science papers are generally easier to mark but science can still be ambiguous. Reading can be quite ambiguous and writing is really quite difficult to mark. However, you've obviously been teaching the material so perhaps I am under estimating you a little bit! :-)

I'm just concerned that you would put your daughter through testing that she doesn't need only for the school to completely ignore you and test her themselves. When you find a school hand over her books and let them decide for themsleves. Most experienced teachers will be able to decide a very rough level from these alone.
